I had the Tomota Soup Pork Noodle (RM20.50) and the broth was flavorful with strong tomato taste without covering the sweetness of the pork essence. Pork meat and offal were plentiful and cooked just nicely to retain their tenderness and taste. The pork liver was bouncy and not dry.

My friend order the Ketogenic menu and it was loaded with meat, super value!

People who stay or work near SS17 would probably heard off Wong Kee Chicken Rice. It is a popular lunch spot for the working group in Petaling Jaya.

The roasted chicken was succulent and tender. Even the breast meat wasn’t too dry. Rice was fragrant. The tangy chili sauce was excellent too.

Wong Kee Chicken Rice Char Siew

My favorite was definitely their melt-in-the-mouth char siew. Heavily caramelized on the surface, they also provide a bowl of thick sweet sauce just in case you want more of the saucy flavors. 75% fat 25% meat of goodness!

Wong Kee Chicken Rice Roast Pork

The Roast Pork was awesome too, crispy crackling skin with tender meat balanced with fat. (Minimum order RM30)

The total bill was RM98 (4 pax) including 4 bowls of chicken rice and 2 drinks.

Shanghai Da Da Huntun 上海大大馄饨 has branches in 3 Damansara Mall (where I visited), Publika Shopping Gallery, and Da Men Mall. My friend ordered their dumpling noodle soup and his comment was the dumplings were alright but nothing stood out.

I had their Braised Beef Ramen (RM16.80) and the portion of the beef was quite good (can’t compared with hawker stalls but being in a mall the price is still alright). The beef broth was good and the braised beef slices were tender and flavorful. The ramen was also not bad with some al dente bite to it.

Restaurant San Shui 山水茶餐室 is a bustling food court in Bandar Sungai Long. While there are multiple stalls in the premise, the food court main operator offers some of the most popular food and drinks.

Roti Bakar or toasted croissants with kaya and butter are quite a popular order, paired with their well timed half boiled eggs.

Amongst the good selections of drinks, their Special Iced Coffee – 劲爆冰 (RM7) stood out the most. It it a strong coffee mixed with a little bit of cincau grass jelly, topped with a big piece of black coffee ice block.

Restaurant San Shui 山水茶餐室 curry mee 姨婆咖喱面

I also tried one of the stalls selling curry noodles: Yee Po Curry Mee 姨婆咖喱面. Wan Tan Mee noodles were used instead of the usual yellow mee or rice vermicelli, and I prefer this springy wan tan noodle. The curry broth was pretty tasty and thick too.

Tuesday to Sunday: 6.30am – 2pm

Satay Madura Riyana

Satay Madura Riyana is quite a popular satay stall frequent by many Indonesians who live in Malaysia. Mandura Satay is a style of satay originate from Madura Island, Indonesia.

I ordered all the three available meat for their satay, which are chicken (RM1 per stick), beef (RM1.20 per stick), and lamb (RM1.50 per stick). My group agreed that the chicken was decent, beef was too tough, and lamb was the best (tender with some fat). The satay sauce is what differ from the usual satay found in Malaysia. It is still peanut sauce, but it is more sweet and salty with the kicap manis added on the satay along with the peanut sauce (it’s like ‘satay banjir’).

Satay Madura Riyana Bakso Pentol Beranak

I also had their special Bakso Pentol Beranak (RM11). The dish consists of a large meatball with an egg in it (hence the name ‘Beranak (pregnant)’, plus some ‘kids’ (smaller meatballs), mix beef pieces, and glass noodles in the broth.

The meatballs are the Pentol kind, similar to Bakso but Pentol have more tapioca starch than meat, whereas Bakso usually have more meat than tapioca starch. Because of this, the meatballs were pretty floury, albeit soft. The bits of mixed beef pieces are good if you enjoy some fatty meat and offal.

Satay Madura Riyana operating hours:

Daily: 5pm – 11pm

Satay Ayam – RM1

Satay Daging – RM1.20

Satay Kambing – RM1.50

Bakso – RM5

Bakso Special (comes with offal) – RM7

Bakso Pentol Beranak – RM11

Nasi Putih – RM2

Lontong – RM2 small; RM3 big

Air Extra Joss – RM2.50

Uncle Mark Wan Tan Mee Kuala Kubu Bharu

Uncle Mark Wan Tan Mee (RM5) was decent and very enjoyable. The noodle wasn’t the most springy kind, yet the texture felt like a well cooked ramen noodles. I enjoyed the delicious sauce which wasn’t too strong and had a nice umami flavor. Instead of the typical wantan dumplings, crispy fried dumplings with a bit of meat filling were added to the dish.

Uncle Mark Wan Tan Mee Curry Noodle

Other than their signature wantan mee, Uncle Mark Wan Tan Mee’s Curry Noodle (RM5.50) was pretty tasty too. The curry broth had just the right amount of spiciness and sweetness for me. It wasn’t the rich milky kind of curry noodle but it’s addicitve and had the ‘old taste’ kind of feel. The curry was actually quite thick and flavorful. I opted for their pan mee noodle and it turned out to be the thin kind, and the texture was nice and suits the curry broth. I had the curry with their wantan noodle another day and it was a good match too.

The toppings included some char siew, fish cake, taupok, the old style fish fuchuk, and of course, their signature fried wantan dumplings.

Nagu Curry House is an Indian Restaurant in Kuala Kubu Bharu, serving all types of Indian Food, freshly prepared on a daily basis.

Nagu Curry House Mooru

I like their blend of Mooru (RM1.80) as it wasn’t too sour or salty, and the spices stood out without being overwhelming. The flavors from the onions and herbs was nice and strong.

Nagu Curry House Vadai

Be sure to get some delicious Vadai (RM0.60) from the counter. They were big, compact, and fragrant. A perfect take away snacks for Kuala Kubu Bharu rivers picnic nearby.

Nagu Curry House Mooru Kuala Kubu Bharu

Nasi Briyani: Not sure if it was because of the ice cold Mooru I drank, numbing my taste buds, I felt that the aroma of the briyani rice was pretty weak and the texture was a little too soft and coarse.

The Mutton Curry (RM8) was one of my favorites in Nagu Curry House. The meat was very tender. The mutton itself was flavorful but the curry made it much more aromatic.

Tofu Sambal (RM1.50): This was my second favorite dish in this shop. The tofu seemed simple yet nicely cooked with the tasty sambal sauce. It was savory and wasn’t very spicy.

The Fried Fish (RM3.50) was probably fried a little too long with heat a little too low. It was a bit dry and could be crispier.

Vegetables: Just the typical soft stir fried vegetables.

Nagu Curry House Operating hours:

Daily: 6.30am – 6pm (The stall counter with vadai and other snacks opens early, but the main food are usually ready during late morning.)

Sweet Forest Cafe open its first outlet in Setapak, and got viral among the university students for its Salted Egg Sauce Chicken Chop. Currently, there are other two branches located in Puchong and Kepong.

Sweet Forest Cafe Salted Egg Sauce Chicken Chop

Salted Egg Sauce Chicken Chop RM17.90: The sauce was delicious and had very strong salted egg flavor. The chicken chop was thick and meaty.

Sweet Forest Cafe Mushroom Sauce Chicken Chop

Mushroom Sauce Chicken Chop with Spaghetti (RM9.90 lunch set): Other than ordering the original version (RM16.90 for this), they sometimes offer lunch sets which substitute the side ingredients with rice or spaghetti, and served with a bowl of thick mushroom soup and a piece of garlic toast. Contradictory to the salted egg sauce, the mushroom sauce on the chicken chop was too mild and bland to be eaten with the rice/spaghetti. Also compared with the amount of rice, the spaghetti served was very little.

Sweet Forest Cafe Fried Mantis Shrimps with Salted Egg

Fried Mantis Shrimps with Salted Egg (RM15.90): The batter was very crispy and savory, with a tiny piece of mantis shrimp meat coated inside.
