Chicken Rice: The rice was buttery enough for my liking. The roasted chicken was pretty succulent and tender, with the light soy sauce which wasn’t too salty. The chili sauce was onee of the highlights as the flavor was strong in garlic and ginger. A bowl of light mustard green soup was given.

Wild Boar Curry: The meat given was in meaty slices instead of chunks. The texture was rather dry but was covered by the hot curry which looked and tasted more like sambal with belacan and sugar.

Jessie's Cendol Stall no.48

This cendol (RM4.50) took me back to Penang with its thick gula melaka (palm sugar), generously added yet not overly sweet. The coconut milk was also strong and balanced out the perfect combination of sweet and savory. The thick cendol jellies were fragrant and tasty too!

Hog Kitchen by HK Pork Noodle has two branches in SS2, Petaling Jaya, and in Kota Damansara. Their pork noodles were good with big size portion (of courses, it still costs higher than hawker stalls’ but price wise it’s reasonable in a busy city).

I had the Tomota Soup Pork Noodle (RM20.50) and the broth was flavorful with strong tomato taste without covering the sweetness of the pork essence. Pork meat and offal were plentiful and cooked just nicely to retain their tenderness and taste. The pork liver was bouncy and not dry.

My friend order the Ketogenic menu and it was loaded with meat, super value!

Wong Kee Chicken Rice, PJ SS17

People who stay or work near SS17 would probably heard off Wong Kee Chicken Rice. It is a popular lunch spot for the working group in Petaling Jaya.

The roasted chicken was succulent and tender. Even the breast meat wasn’t too dry. Rice was fragrant. The tangy chili sauce was excellent too.

My favorite was definitely their melt-in-the-mouth char siew. Heavily caramelized on the surface, they also provide a bowl of thick sweet sauce just in case you want more of the saucy flavors. 75% fat 25% meat of goodness!

The Roast Pork was awesome too, crispy crackling skin with tender meat balanced with fat. (Minimum order RM30)

The total bill was RM98 (4 pax) including 4 bowls of chicken rice and 2 drinks.

Shanghai Da Da Huntun 上海大大馄饨 has branches in 3 Damansara Mall (where I visited), Publika Shopping Gallery, and Da Men Mall. My friend ordered their dumpling noodle soup and his comment was the dumplings were alright but nothing stood out.

I had their Braised Beef Ramen (RM16.80) and the portion of the beef was quite good (can’t compared with hawker stalls but being in a mall the price is still alright). The beef broth was good and the braised beef slices were tender and flavorful. The ramen was also not bad with some al dente bite to it.

Satay Madura Riyana is quite a popular satay stall frequent by many Indonesians who live in Malaysia. Mandura Satay is a style of satay originate from Madura Island, Indonesia.

I ordered all the three available meat for their satay, which are chicken (RM1 per stick), beef (RM1.20 per stick), and lamb (RM1.50 per stick). My group agreed that the chicken was decent, beef was too tough, and lamb was the best (tender with some fat). The satay sauce is what differ from the usual satay found in Malaysia. It is still peanut sauce, but it is more sweet and salty with the kicap manis added on the satay along with the peanut sauce (it’s like ‘satay banjir’).

I also had their special Bakso Pentol Beranak (RM11). The dish consists of a large meatball with an egg in it (hence the name ‘Beranak (pregnant)’, plus some ‘kids’ (smaller meatballs), mix beef pieces, and glass noodles in the broth.

The meatballs are the Pentol kind, similar to Bakso but Pentol have more tapioca starch than meat, whereas Bakso usually have more meat than tapioca starch. Because of this, the meatballs were pretty floury, albeit soft. The bits of mixed beef pieces are good if you enjoy some fatty meat and offal.

Used to be called Restoran Yuan Kee, this restaurant shifted from Kepong to Bandar Sri Damansara, and changed its name to Wayne Innovation Cuisine (also still known as Xin Yaun Kee Restaurant).

白灼三层肉 (Boiled Pork Belly): for pork lovers who like some fat.

Their popular 牛肉河 (Beef Hor Fun) was very nice. Generous on the meat, very slurpy and had a lot of gravy.

The tofu stew taste was standard but had generous ingredients.

上汤啦啦 Siong Tong Lala (Clams in Superior Soup): the wine wasn’t strong enough, but there’s a unique taste, might be from some herbs, such as tong guai.

油浸金凤鱼 Deep Fried Kam Fung Yu (Tilapia): fried perfectly, crispy on the outside, tender inside, not over cooked.

白灼生肠 Boiled Sang Cheong (pig fallopian tubes): nice and chewy, the flavor was good, no foul smell.

Just Seafood is one of the first seafood restaurants that started the “seafood on table” trend many years ago. It serves fresh seafood with great flavors.

Ordering at Just Seafood is simple, there are four flavors: The Original Cajun, Signature Curry, Golden Salted Egg, and Butter Cream Milk. Them, you select the size (2 pax – RM110, RM70 without crab; 4 pax – RM218, RM138 without crab; 6 pax – RM326, RM208 without crab). The addictive Cajun Style was very strong in flavor and you could easily finish a bowl of rice with just the sauce. On the other hand, the Butter Milk was nice and thick. Each set comes with crabs (optional), prawns, clams, mussels, potatoes, carrot and corn. The food is spread over the table on food grade wax paper.

Just Seafood also serves live USA Oysters (RM20 per piece; or RM80 for 5 pieces), which were fresh and in decent size.

Offside transition to Offside Burger & Cheese Offside had shutdown in April 2020, and reopened in April 2021 with the name Offside Burger & Cheese with possible ownership transfer. The new menu has reduced items. My visit was during the first version of Offside. See the menu section below for info.

Offside in Monash is a multi-cuisine and pork-free restaurant that plays movies and football matches all day long. The place would usually be full when there are ongoing live football matches.

You can also rent various gaming platforms. Board games are available too.

Meat N’ Greed (RM10): Skewers with capsicums, mushrooms and cherry tomatoes. You have a choice of chicken or beef. They were marinated for 24 hours and charbroiled. Tender and juicy, slightly charred.

Seems Legit (RM14): Yes, that is the name of the dish. Homemade Belgian waffle topped with well-seasoned, golden-brown fried chicken thigh. Served with fresh butter and honey. The chicken was very crispy, the denseness of the waffles suited really well with the chicken.

Azzurri Focaccia Pizza (RM16): Topped with rich mozzarella cheese, turkey ham, fresh basil and France cultivated blueberries. Relatively thick crust with sufficient amount of cheese and toppings.

Sambal Dancing (RM9.90 for chicken, RM10.90 for beef): Authentic Brazillian style burger with avocado mash, sunny side up egg, fresh capsicums, onions, and tomato sauce. For the patty, you have a choice of Australian grass-fed beef or golden-brown fried chicken thigh. I had chicken and it was very crispy. I like the hand-cut fries too.
