Warung Amilin is located in a small town called Ajil in Terengganu. Their signature dish is Tempoyak Ikan Baung (RM14 for tail). Tempoyak is fermented durian paste used for cooking and also as a dipping sauce. Ikan Baung is a kind of river catfish.
The fish was very fresh and the tempoyak broth was the lighter version with mild durian flavor and less spicy. Despite it’s light aroma, I find this salty and sweet tempoyak suits the fish better than the heavier version. I totally enjoyed it and drank up all the broth and wanting more! The meaty fish was so tender and sweet, it’s really a perfect tempoyak and fish dish.
