Mangonui Fresh & Tasty Takeaways | Fish & Chips

Mangonui’s Fresh & Tasty Takeaways is a no-frills, local fish n chips and fast food shop. Being so close to the ‘World Famous’ Mangonui Fish & Chips Shop, Fresh & Tasty Mangonui often get overlooked by the tourists. However, when discovered, visitors always leave with satisfaction and positive reviews.

I discovered this shop when I book my stay at the cozy Mangonui Hotel, as the shop is just beside the hotel. You are also welcome to order the food to have it in the bar at the hotel’s ground level.

I got the Mangonui Fresh & Tasty Specials Set B (19NZD). This wholesome set includes two pieces of Blue Warehou fish fillet, two hash browns, two deep fried wontons and chips. That’s like half the price of what you would get charged from the touristy Mangonui Fish Shop!

How about the taste and quality? Well, the fish was fresh and nicely battered. Though, I felt that the fish was a little dry and too firm for my liking. But to be fair, it was a different kind of fish from the previous fish & chips shop I visited (blue warehou contains less fat and tend to be quite firm). The hash browns were very crispy and pretty amazing. The wontons and chips were standard and nothing to complain about.
