In South Australia, there is a lovely historic German settlement called Hahndorf. It is also Australia’s oldest surviving German settlement. While in Hahndorf, you gotta visit the Eis Haus (Ice Cream Cafe) and try the iconic German dessert: Spaghettieis (Spaghetti Ice Cream)!
Spaghetti Ice Cream was invented in Germany in 1969. It is made by pressing vanilla gelato through a noodle press to create spaghetti-like strands, draped over whipped cream, and topped with strawberry sauce (as Bolognese sauce) and white chocolate (as grated parmesan cheese).
Eis Haus’ Original Spaghetti Eis ($15) was rich, fragrant, creamy, and not too sweet. Perfekt!
Other Spaghetti Eis flavors or Sundae (with liqueur / non-alcoholic) ice creams are also available.
Other than desserts, Eis Haus also offer some simple bites, such as waffle, and open-face sandwiches, such as this rustic Käsebrot / cheese toast ($7).
