If you could only choose one place to eat on Stewart Island, it’s definitely gonna be Kai Kart! It is Stewart Island’s only Fish & Chips store, yet it is still the best one I ever had in New Zealand. With its fresh seafood and delicious recipes, no doubt people are willing to wait 45 minutes to get their food from Kai Kart.
I order Grilled Blue Cod ($11), half scoop of chips ($5), and Battered Mussels ($8 for six pieces). They had three mussels left so they replace the remaining ones with Blue Cod Fish Bites ($9 for two pieces). The Grilled Blue Cod was simple yet so fresh and tasty. The hot chips were addictively nice and crispy. I love the big sized Battered Mussels and they tasted very fresh and juicy. The delicious Fish Bites are similar to the smaller version of battered fish.
