Riverside Takeaways, Wairoa: A local’s favorite fish & chips and takeaway shop in the small town of Wairoa, in the North Island of New Zealand. I had a big meal of double fish and chips set meal with salad for $20 (+$1 for an additional fried egg). The huge battered fish fillets came piping hot and everything’s on point! The texture of the fish was firm, thick yet tender, and the batter’s thickness was just right. The crinkle cuts hot chips were very crispy, and the refreshing salad helped cools the palate down.

Just opposite the road, you can find some picnic tables with the views of Wairoa River to enjoy your takeaway meals. There were many seagulls and a few small native birds surrounding me when I was eating but they weren’t aggressive or trying to steal my food.
